Into the Wild
Almost through with reading "Into the Wild" by Jon Krakauer. Watched the movie two years ago and thought about the story again recently. It was during my Grand Canyon camping and road trip. Anyhow, I decided to get the book so I can appreciate the story more fully. Most inspired but at the same time disturbed by this true story about a young chap (Christopher Johnson McCandless) who sets off on his own into the Alaskan wild (for soul searching + to challenge himself) but winds up starving to death on the famous Bus 142 along Sushana River.
I am also surprised (or maybe pleased) that I identify with him in some ways but understand myself too well to know that I would not have the courage or recklessness to do what he did.
To go on such a risky expedition alone, not inform anyone, out of my comfort zone, live off the land and subject myself to the elements of nature. I am too pampered for that now. But I would love to go on an Alaskan adventure with a small group of 3 or 4 and a professional guide.
Came across paragraphs of excerpts and quotes that I love. Will post soon... when I finish reading the book.
