Generation NOT
Someone once told me that children reflect the success of their parents. Should that even be one of the reasons for having kids? So a kid is merely a trophy then? Something you can show off to your relatives and friends? Imagine the pressure and stress your child will have to face, knowing how much you expect of him.In some families, the elders want grandchildren to continue to family line. This is especially so if you are married to the only remaining male descendant. In this day and age? What crap is that? Anyway, unless you are a genius, genetically athletic and healthy, or look like a greek god, why would you want to reproduce? What is so great about your genes that you want to leave behind?
If you want children so that you will have someone to take care of you when you are old, why don't you just start a retirement fund. Or if you are afraid you will die alone, then get a pet. Dogs make excellent companions.
And just because you have children doesn't mean they will care for you when you are old. Do you know that there are a lot of aged and senile folks living out the rest of their time in homes? Their children pay the home for the first couple of months and then disappear (migrate or move away and become uncontactable). These poor abandoned old people then become the responsibility of the government/home and they constantly wonder why their children don't visit. It's heartbreaking...
Nations encourage their citizens to breed and invest in the future generation. What is this obsession with letting the next generation continue the race and reap the rewards of your hard work? Why not just end if all here? Isn't the world coming to an end anyways?
In my opinion, you should only have kids if it doesn't cramp your style, i.e. your lifestyle should not change much and you should still be able to afford whatever you want without having to stress yourself out working extra hours and wondering if you will have enough to provide for the entire family or your child's education. You should be able to do whatever you want, go wherever you want, whenever you please. And of course you want to look as good and be as fit as before.
You should also be able to provide the best for your children - all the things you wished you had while you were growing up. Let me remind you that children do not always turn out the way you want them to. Very often, they go through a rebellious stage where they hate you (even though you have done so much for them) and sometimes they do not grow out of this stage.
So, is it worth it? Will someone please explain what all the fuss is about?
